The Nigerian Army has formally confirmed that a recent military operation led by United States forces achieved substantial success against Lakurawa insurgent bases in the Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The confirmation follows reports that the US military launched at least twelve Tomahawk missiles at terrorist enclaves last Thursday, on the 25th of December, 2025, While the operation sparked a public debate with some security analysts suggesting the strikes missed their mark and landed in “safe places” the military has now moved to clarify the outcome.
In an official statement released on Monday, the 29th of December, 2025, the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Col. Appolonia Anele, countered claims of failure, asserting that the offensive successfully decimated multiple insurgent camps.
The operation was the result of high-level tactical cooperation. According to Col. Anele, the troops of Combat Intelligence Battalion VII, “acting on credible intelligence about terrorist movements along the Kaurau axis, coordinated with US AFRICOM forces to target camps in the Bauni Forest, near Waria and Alkassim villages, on December 25.”

To verify the results of the Christmas Day aerial bombardment, ground troops conducted assessment missions the following morning. Col. Anele noted that “follow-up patrols on December 26 confirmed extensive destruction of terrorist positions, significantly degrading their operational capability.”
The Army maintains that this joint effort has dealt a major blow to the insurgents‘ ability to launch attacks in the region, reaffirming the effectiveness of international security partnerships in the Northwest.
