A Nigerian basketball player in the United States has appeared before an Alabama court after being charged with first-degree rape over an alleged sexual assault.
Daniel Tobilola Adegboyega, 21, appeared for a bond hearing on Monday, August 3, 2026, at the Calhoun County court following his arrest in connection with an incident reported in Jacksonville, Alabama.
The alleged offence occurred on July 28, 2026, at an apartment in the city, according to details presented during the proceedings. Investigators said a complaint was filed, prompting a police response and the collection of evidence as part of an ongoing investigation.
Adegboyega has denied the allegation, maintaining that he did not commit any offense.

During the hearing, immigration officials reportedly told the court that the athlete was also subject to an immigration hold following questions concerning his student visa status after transferring from California Baptist University to Jacksonville State University.
The judge reserved a decision on his bond application, and Adegboyega remains in custody as the case proceeds.
Jacksonville State University has suspended him from team activities pending the outcome of the legal process.
The charge remains an allegation, and Adegboyega is presumed innocent unless proven guilty by a court.
