Nigerian content creator Esther Thomas, popularly known as Sunshine, has died following complications from surgery to remove fibroids.
Her family confirmed that she passed away on January 9, 2026.
Sunshine had been diagnosed with uterine fibroids, non-cancerous growths that can cause severe pain.
Fellow content creator Chidera Madu said she first experienced intense stomach pain on December 28, 2025.
She was initially admitted to Orchid General Hospital in Lagos, where she reportedly received only pain relief due to a doctors’ strike.
As her condition worsened, she was transferred to another medical facility on January 2 for further treatment.

Sunshine rose to prominence through her viral skits on social media and was also known as a model, brand influencer and video personality.
Her death has triggered an outpouring of grief from fans and colleagues across online platforms.
Her family said burial arrangements are being finalised and appealed for privacy.
