Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have successfully thwarted an attempted assault by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) insurgents and followed up with a strong counter-attack in Borno State.
The update was made public on Wednesday, the 11th of February, 2026, in a statement issued by the Media Information Officer at the Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba.
“Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have once again demonstrated exceptional resolve and operational superiority by swiftly repelling an ISWAP attack, and launching a devastating follow-on counter-offensive.
“This decisive action has significantly degraded terrorist capabilities, disrupted their logistics, and reaffirmed OPHK’s unwavering commitment to dismantling terrorist networks across the North East region,” part of the statement read.
According to the statement, ISWAP fighters launched an attack on the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Auno late on the 5th of February, 2026, just before midnight. However, personnel under Sector 1 successfully resisted the incursion.
In response, troops teamed up with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) on the 9th of February to carry out a coordinated counter-offensive along the Komala axis in Konduga Local Government Area.
The pursuit extended to the Gidan Kaji axis, where 16 insurgents were eliminated, while several others reportedly escaped with injuries.
Security forces recovered more than 20 bicycles, assorted weapons and other logistics materials during the operation.
The military further disclosed that suspected ISWAP logistics couriers were apprehended the same day around the Bukarti axis. The suspects were allegedly conveying a substantial quantity of drugs believed to be meant for the insurgents.

In another operation on the 9th of February, troops prevented a kidnap attempt along the Buratai-Kamuya road.
According to the statement, the attackers fled into surrounding bushes after the intervention of security forces, abandoning their captives.
Two victims, Mallam Idris Adamu and Mallam Muhammadu Safiyanu, were rescued and later reunited with their families in Buratai.
Additionally, troops acting on a distress call along the Chibok-Damboa axis on the same day freed nine other kidnapped individuals, the statement added.
