Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed the death of Ambassador Taofik Obasanjo Coker, the country’s Consul-General in Buea, Cameroon.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, the envoy passed away on Saturday, August 16, 2025, after a brief illness. He was 62 years old.
The announcement was made on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, through the Ministry’s official social media platforms, including Instagram and Facebook, before being circulated to the press.
Ambassador Coker was described as a committed and distinguished career officer who dedicated his service to advancing Nigeria’s foreign policy.
Before his posting to Buea in 2023, he had represented Nigeria at diplomatic missions in Conakry, Guinea, and Shanghai, China.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs extends its deepest condolences to his family, colleagues, and friends, and prays for the peaceful repose of his soul,” the statement read.
His passing is regarded as a major loss to Nigeria’s diplomatic service, particularly in Cameroon where he was overseeing consular responsibilities in Buea, a region that hosts a large Nigerian community.
Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by his family in consultation with the Ministry in the coming days.
