Nigeria’s Worst Days Over, Tinubu’s Reforms Stabilising Economy — Gbenga Daniel

Former Ogun State governor and Senator representing Ogun East, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has expressed confidence that Nigeria is gradually emerging from its economic difficulties, insisting that the most challenging period is now over under President Bola Tinubu.

Daniel made the remarks on Sunday, January 18, at the annual family Thanksgiving service held at Abraham Tabernacle in Sagamu, Ogun State.

He commended the Tinubu administration’s economic reforms, including the flotation of the naira, fuel subsidy removal and efforts to tackle insecurity, saying the policies are beginning to stabilise the country.

He thanked God for preserving Nigeria and for granting the President the leadership needed to move the nation forward.

“First and foremost, we thank God Almighty for His preservation. We must also thank the President and Commander-in-Chief for providing the enabling environment and the time to move the nation forward. In recent times, we have seen clear efforts to address the problem of insecurity,” Daniel said.

He added, “Inflation had risen sharply, but we are now hearing that it is beginning to ease. Despite these difficulties, we must continue to thank God Almighty, and we hope that this new year will be an unforgettable one in our country. Nigeria, as I have said before, can only get better.

“The worst is over. I believe that gradually and steadily, things will continue to improve,” he assured.

Daniel also emphasised the importance of prayers, noting the large gathering of clergymen at the event.

“When you look around—at this massive gathering—you will see that over 200 clergymen came together simply to pray for Nigeria. That tells me we are making progress,” he said.

The senator lamented the trust deficit in Nigerian politics, where politicians are often broadly branded dishonest, stressing that some leaders still uphold the values of integrity and service associated with the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

“We are trying hard to serve without blemish, and we trust God will continue to help us,” Daniel said, adding that he has worked to serve the people faithfully for over two decades.

He also highlighted his empowerment programmes and pledged to continue complementing government efforts to improve lives in Ogun State.

The service was attended by several dignitaries, including Oladipupo Adebutu, who urged Nigerians to remain hopeful despite current hardships.
