The National Identity Management Commission has alerted Nigerians to a fraudulent online flyer promoting a so-called free portal for correcting National Identification Number details, stating that the information is false.
In a message shared on its official X handle on Saturday, the commission cautioned the public against using the platform advertised in the viral flyer for any NIN-related updates. It stressed that all data modifications must be carried out strictly through its authorised channel.
“The public is hereby advised not to use the above for modifying their NIN data. All modifications should only be done via the official channel:https://selfservicemodification.nimc.gov.ng,” the post read.
The misleading flyer, which has circulated widely across social media platforms, featured the logos of NIMC and the Federal Government. It claimed that a correction portal had been introduced on government directive in response to a “high level of complain.”

According to the flyer, users could access services such as name, gender, and date of birth corrections. However, the links provided redirected to a suspicious “gvly.xyz” domain, which is not affiliated with any official government website.
Notably, the document was marked “FAKE” in red, indicating it was being reshared by the commission itself as part of efforts to debunk the misinformation.
NIMC reiterated that any form of data correction can only be processed through its official self-service portal, urging Nigerians to remain vigilant and avoid falling victim to online scams.
