The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a forecast warning of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and potential flooding in several parts of the country from Monday, the 11th of August, through Wednesday, the 13th of August, 2025.
In its weekend update, the agency urged residents in the central and southern regions to brace for intense weather conditions.
For the northern region, NiMet outlined that morning thunderstorms will affect parts of Sokoto, Kebbi, Adamawa, and Taraba States on Monday, with moderate rainfall later in the day in Bauchi, Borno, Kaduna, Kano, Jigawa, Taraba, and Adamawa States. Katsina, Kebbi, Zamfara, and Sokoto States are on high alert for possible flooding during the period.
In the North-Central zone, light rain is expected in parts of Niger State on Monday morning, followed by thunderstorms and light showers in the afternoon and evening across the Federal Capital Territory, Plateau, Nasarawa, Benue, and Kogi States. Plateau, Nasarawa, and Niger States have a high risk of flooding.

For the South, cloudy skies with light rain are expected in the morning in parts of Ebonyi, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States. Moderate rainfall is anticipated later in the day in Enugu, Edo, Ebonyi, Ekiti, Osun, Abia, Cross River, Rivers, Delta, and Akwa Ibom States. Delta, Imo, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States are flagged for significant flood risks.
