“No Victor, No Vanquished”: Adeleke Reaches Out To Opponents After Election Victory

Ademola Adeleke, has called on his opponents in the August 15 governorship election to join hands with his administration in advancing the interests of the state.

Adeleke made the appeal on Sunday, August 16, in Osogbo, during an address to Osun residents, shortly after he was declared the winner of the election.

The governor said the election should not create permanent divisions among political actors, stressing that his administration remained committed to broadening development and improving governance across the state.

“Osun State is on the march again. We shall expand development and widen the net of good governance.

“In this race, there is no victor and no vanquished. I extend my olive branch to my co-contestants,” he said during the address on Sunday, August 16, in Osogbo.

“I am the governor of all Osun people. My vision is to take Osun from a civil service state to an industrial state and an investment destination. Congratulations to Osun people and to all supporters of good governance.”

Adeleke, who contested under the Accord Party, defeated his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), to secure another term as governor of the South-West state.

The Returning Officer, Joshua Ogunwole, announced the final results at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Collation Centre in Osogbo.

Adeleke recorded 511,067 votes, while Oyebamiji polled 444,815 votes. Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) finished third with 17,180 votes.

Declaring the result, Ogunwole said: “For that, Adeleke Ademola Jackson of the Accord Party, having satisfied the requirement of the law, is hereby declared the winner and is hereby returned elected,” Ogunwole said while announcing the final results.

The governor said his victory had strengthened his confidence in Nigeria’s democratic process and thanked those who supported his re-election campaign.

“To all lovers of democracy, I thank you for supporting our struggle. From home and abroad, the support is overwhelming. My faith in democracy is deepened,” the governor said.

Adeleke also acknowledged the role of the media during the election period, particularly its coverage of democratic activities.

“Most importantly, I thank the media for standing by me—by us. The constant coverage in support of democracy emboldened us, and we are grateful.”

The victory gives Adeleke another four years at the helm of Osun State after he first won the governorship election in 2022 under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He subsequently left the PDP in December 2025 amid efforts to secure another term in office.
