Nollywood Mourns As Gospel Voice Onos Brisibi Dies At 55

The Nigerian entertainment industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of gospel singer and Nollywood soundtrack vocalist, Onos Brisibi, who passed away at the age of 55 after a prolonged illness.

Brisibi, whose soulful voice became a defining feature in iconic Nollywood productions such as Domitilla and Blood Money, died on March 23, 2026, bringing an end to a career that quietly but powerfully shaped the emotional depth of early Nigerian cinema.

News of her passing was made public on Thursday by veteran actor Richard Mofe-Damijo, popularly known as RMD, via an emotional tribute shared on Instagram.

In his message, the screen legend paid glowing tribute to the late singer, describing her as a woman of deep faith and extraordinary talent whose voice resonated far beyond the screen.

“It’s hard to put into words the loss we feel,” he wrote, as he announced that Brisibi “went to be with the Lord” after what he described as a long and difficult illness.

Providing insight into her background, RMD noted that she was born on November 20, 1970, into the family of the late Apostle Ambrose Oproze Brisibi and Deaconess Mary Koko Brisibi of Aladja in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State.

Beyond her family ties, he portrayed her as a rare soul whose life reflected love, faith, and service.

“Onos was more than family—she was love in human form. A devoted Christian, a beautiful soul, and a gifted songstress whose voice carried so much light and joy,” he wrote.

He added that her music was not merely performance, but ministry—one that uplifted hearts and drew many closer to God.

Tributes have since begun pouring in from across the entertainment and gospel communities, with many remembering her not just for her vocal brilliance, but for her warmth, generosity, and unwavering devotion to her faith.

Her passing marks the loss of a distinctive voice in Nollywood’s golden era and a minister whose songs left a lasting spiritual imprint on listeners.
