NPFL Slams Heavy Sanctions on Kano Pillars Over Fan Violence

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has imposed severe sanctions on Kano Pillars following the violent conduct of their fans during Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Shooting Stars at the Sani Abacha Stadium.

Despite the public apology issued by team captain Ahmed Musa over the unruly behaviour, the league body moved swiftly to enforce disciplinary measures aimed at curbing recurring fan violence in the league.

According to the NPFL’s decision, Kano Pillars have been:

Deducted three points and three goals from their league tally,

Fined a total of ₦9.5 million, and

Ordered to play all home matches away from Kano for the next four months.

The sanctions come after chaotic scenes erupted when angry Pillars fans invaded the pitch, chasing match officials and Shooting Stars players moments after the Ibadan-based team grabbed a stoppage-time equaliser.

Musa, who had earlier condemned the incident and apologised to Shooting Stars and the NPFL, urged supporters to show better sportsmanship going forward.

The league organisers, however, maintained that such acts tarnish the image of Nigerian football and would no longer be tolerated.

Football lovers have since taken to social media to express mixed reactions — while some praised the NPFL for enforcing discipline, others called for more fan education and tighter stadium security to prevent similar incidents.
