The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has reaffirmed that train operations on the Lagos–Ibadan Standard Gauge corridor are running without interruption, despite a recent vandalism incident recorded between Agege and Agbado stations in Lagos.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the 7th of October, 2025, the Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, disclosed that critical signalling components were damaged by unknown vandals.
According to the NRC, the act was discovered on Monday, the 6th of October, during a routine inspection that revealed the theft of vital signalling items, including signal machine cap protectors and connection cables on Switch Point Machine No. 2 along the route.
“The Corporation discovered that some unknown persons had vandalised key signalling components along the track.
“The stolen and damaged items were detected during a scheduled inspection of the line,” Unyimadu said.
He denounced the act, describing it as a calculated attempt to sabotage essential national infrastructure.

Unyimadu explained that tampering with signalling systems endangers both operational safety and the lives of passengers and staff.
He added that the vandalism did not affect train services, as operations on the Lagos–Ibadan corridor continue seamlessly. Security agencies have been notified to investigate and ensure those responsible face the law.
The NRC restated its commitment to ensuring the safety and reliability of its rail services nationwide and called on residents living near railway lines to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activity around railway installations.
