The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has renewed its demand for justice and fairness for all categories of workers as the world marks Decent Work Day.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the 7th of October, 2025, the NLC President Joe Ajaero emphasized that the “rights and welfare of workers must never be compromised.”
Ajaero said the Decent Work Day serves as a reminder to “end exploitation and impunity in workplaces” nationwide, adding that decent work remains a key requirement for genuine national progress.
“The rights and welfare of workers must not be compromised; we must end all forms of exploitation and impunity in our workplaces,” he stated.

He urged both public and private employers to commit to the four core elements of decent work, job creation, social protection, rights at work, and social dialogue.
Ajaero noted that these principles were being weakened by actions of some government agencies and private companies, warning that such trends threaten industrial growth and economic balance.
“No nation can achieve true development while repressing workers’ rights and promoting inequality,” he added.
