The Nigeria Revenue Service has warned Nigerians against a fake recruitment announcement being circulated online in the name of the former Federal Inland Revenue Service.
The agency issued the warning in a public notice titled “Fraudulent Recruitment Notice” published on its official X account on Monday.
The NRS said it was alerted to a social media notice carrying the headline “Federal Inland Revenue Service – FIRS Job Vacancy – Replacement,” which claims to advertise job openings within the agency.
According to the Service, the fraudulent notice asks prospective applicants to submit their details through the email address recruit@replacementnhrmt.org.
“The NRS wishes to state categorically that the notice is fraudulent and did not emanate from the Nigeria Revenue Service,” the agency said.
The NRS also reminded the public that the Federal Inland Revenue Service had been replaced by the Nigeria Revenue Service.

It urged Nigerians to exercise caution and independently verify any recruitment announcement issued under the FIRS name.
The agency further clarified that it had neither approved nor commenced the recruitment exercise referenced in the circulating notice.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the NRS has not authorised or commenced the recruitment exercise referenced in the notice and has not appointed or authorised any individual, agent, consultant or third party to conduct any recruitment exercise on its behalf,” the notice read.
The Service advised members of the public to disregard the announcement and avoid responding to suspicious recruitment messages or clicking unverified links.
It stressed that genuine recruitment opportunities by the NRS would only be announced through its official website and other authorised communication platforms.
“Any legitimate recruitment exercise undertaken by the Nigeria Revenue Service will be formally communicated through the Service’s official website and authorised communication channels.”
The agency urged Nigerians to confirm the authenticity of recruitment information through its official channels before providing personal details or taking any action.
