The Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) has warned Nigerians against a widely circulated infographic claiming that a new vehicle tax will take effect from July 1, describing the information as false.
In a statement issued by Mr Dare Adekambi, Special Adviser to the NRS Chairman, Dr Zach Adedeji, the agency said the message did not originate from any government body.
Adekambi, who is also the NRS spokesperson, explained that the misleading notice instructs owners of private, commercial, and corporate vehicles to make payments through unspecified channels, including online platforms and selected financial institutions.
He added that the graphic, which has no identifiable source, also misdirects the public to an incorrect website, http://www.firs.gov.ng, instead of the agency’s official portal, http://www.nrs.gov.ng.

According to him, there is no policy introducing a new vehicle tax as suggested in the viral material.
“The NRS wishes to state categorically that the information did not emanate from the service or any government agency.
“Citizens are, therefore, advised to disregard the fabricated messages designed to mislead the public and instead rely on official government channels for information on government policies,” he said.
The agency maintained that the circulating content is entirely misleading and urged Nigerians to be cautious when engaging with unverified information online.
Adekambi further encouraged the public to depend only on official NRS platforms for accurate updates on tax-related matters, noting that this would help prevent confusion and potential exploitation.
