Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Jigawa State Command, have arrested a 35-year-old man, Rayyanu Ibrahim, for allegedly stealing and vandalising an armoured cable at the Birnin Kudu Township Water Station.
The suspect, a resident of Kurima in Birnin Kudu Local Government Area, was arrested on Sunday, September 20, 2026, following a report of vandalism at the water facility.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, ASC Badaruddeen Tijjani, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists in Dutse, the state capital, on Monday.
Tijjani said the incident was reported around 4am after unknown individuals allegedly broke into the facility and tampered with its electrical installations.
According to him, the Divisional Officer of the Birnin Kudu Division, CSC A. S. Adam, immediately mobilised personnel to the area after receiving the report and commenced an investigation.
He said information supplied by members of the Birnin Kudu Peace and Security Group later led to the arrest of Ibrahim at about 11am on the same day.
The suspect was reportedly found in possession of an armoured cable believed to have been removed from the vandalised facility.
“The suspect was arrested with an armoured cable suspected to have been removed from the affected facility, which has been recovered as an exhibit,” Tijjani said.
The spokesman added that the Divisional Officer and other NSCDC personnel inspected the scene and confirmed that the facility’s electrical system had been vandalised.

Tijjani further stated that the suspect allegedly confessed during preliminary questioning and provided information about other cable theft incidents.
He said Ibrahim reportedly told investigators that the stolen cables were sold to scrap dealers.
The command, according to the statement, has expanded its investigation in an effort to identify and arrest other individuals allegedly involved in the cable theft and vandalism.
The suspect remains in NSCDC custody as investigations continue, with further action to be taken in line with the law.
The Jigawa State Commandant, CC Muhammad Ingawa, reaffirmed the corps’ commitment to protecting critical national assets and infrastructure.
Ingawa also urged residents to remain alert and report suspicious activities around critical infrastructure to security agencies.
