Army, Tantita Join Forces To Tackle Oil Theft, Pipeline Vandalism

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Emmanuel Ejim-Emekah, has pledged renewed collaboration between the Army and Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL) to strengthen security infrastructure in the Niger Delta and boost Nigeria’s crude oil production.

Ejim-Emekah made the pledge on Wednesday at Effurun Barracks in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State during the commissioning of the reconstructed and furnished Headquarters, Sector 1, Joint Task Force South-South, Operation Delta Safe, as well as the 3 Battalion Headquarters. The projects were sponsored by TSSNL as part of its corporate social responsibility.

The commissioned facilities include 13 newly constructed offices at the 3 Battalion Headquarters and the remodelling of 22 offices at the Sector 1 Headquarters.

The GOC, who also serves as Land Component Commander of the Joint Task Force South-South, Operation Delta Safe, said sustained collaboration among the Nigerian Army, TSSNL and other security partners has contributed to improved security of oil and gas infrastructure, leading to a gradual rise in crude oil output.

He noted that partnerships with credible private-sector operators such as Tantita have significantly enhanced the capacity of troops to combat oil theft, pipeline vandalism and other forms of economic sabotage across the Niger Delta.

According to him, Tantita’s support extends beyond Delta State to Rivers and Bayelsa States, with the company recently undertaking another major project for the Army in Port Harcourt.

Ejim-Emekah recalled that upon assuming office in January last year, he was dissatisfied with the condition of some military facilities in Warri, describing them as unbefitting of an operational infantry battalion. He said the completion of the new and refurbished headquarters reflects improved leadership, enhanced command and control, and better administrative efficiency.

The project was conceptualised by the Commander, 63 Brigade and Sector 1 JTF Operation Delta Safe, Brigadier General M.A. Shonibare, and executed by TSSNL.

Speaking at the event, the Managing Director of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, High Chief Kestin Pondi, said sustainable security is driven by strong collaboration between public and private institutions.

Pondi noted that since its engagement by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited in August 2022, Tantita has worked closely with government security agencies, particularly the Nigerian Army, to combat oil theft and pipeline vandalism.

He said the project, which began in August 2025, was completed in record time and represents an investment in operational readiness and capacity building.

The event was attended by senior military officers, representatives of sister security agencies, community leaders and other stakeholders.
