Greensprings School Guard Jailed For Life After Raping Nurse

A Lagos court has sentenced a security guard at Greensprings School to life imprisonment for the rape of a nurse in the school’s clinic.

The verdict was delivered on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, by Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court.

The convict, Emmanuel Buchi, was found guilty of raping a 37-year-old nurse who was on night duty at the school’s Awoyaya, Ibeju-Lekki campus on November 27, 2021.

The court heard that Buchi abandoned his security post and forcibly entered the clinic, where he assaulted the nurse.

Justice Oshodi dismissed Buchi’s defence, which claimed the encounter was consensual, describing it as inconsistent and untruthful.

The ruling referenced the victim’s testimony, supporting witnesses, and medical evidence documenting injuries consistent with assault.

The judge noted that Buchi’s actions involved threats and physical force, highlighting the serious breach of trust given his role as a security officer.

Buchi received a life sentence for rape and an additional three years for assault occasioning harm, with the sentences to run concurrently.

The court also directed that his name be added to the Lagos State Sexual Offences Register.

The case underscores the strict enforcement of Nigeria’s laws against sexual offences, particularly when victims are vulnerable and offenders are entrusted with their safety.
