The Director of New Media and Strategic Communications of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Theo Abu Agada, has described former Labour Party (LP) vice-presidential candidate Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed as a “bitter ex” after his criticism of Peter Obi.
Baba-Ahmed, Obi’s running mate in the 2023 presidential election, said none of the politicians seeking to challenge President Bola Tinubu in 2027, including Obi, could improve Nigeria.
He made the remarks in an interview on the Mic On Podcast published on Saturday, September 5, 2026.
Baba-Ahmed said Tinubu should leave office in 2027 but should not hand over to any of his challengers, whom he described as part of the political establishment.

He also disclosed that he had advised Obi against joining the African Democratic Congress (ADC) after leaving the LP.
Obi later left the ADC in May 2026 and joined the NDC, where he emerged as its 2027 presidential candidate on May 30. Former Kano State governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso was named his running mate.
Reacting to Baba-Ahmed’s remarks, Agada wrote on X on Sunday, September 6: “Datti Baba-Ahmed is just a bitter ex.”
The former running mates have since pursued separate political ambitions ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
