The African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has declared that former United States President Donald Trump backs his proposed policy to restore the fuel subsidy in Nigeria. Atiku promised to reinstate the subsidy if elected President in the 2027 general elections.
In a statement released by his spokesman, Phrank Shaibu, titled ‘Atiku boasts of stakeholders, Trump support on fuel subsidy,’ Atiku emphasized the importance of putting money back into Nigerians’ pockets by supporting domestic fuel production.
“This is why my Production Subsidy is about putting money back into people’s pockets. Support what we produce and refine here, increase supply, monitor the price and make sure Nigerians feel the benefit at the pump,” the statement read.

The statement also highlighted that America, under Trump’s administration, recognized the value of supporting strategic energy production. Atiku criticized President Bola Tinubu’s government for attacking relief efforts for ordinary Nigerians while offering incentives to multinational oil firms.
“So why does intervention suddenly become bad economics when ordinary Nigerians are meant to benefit?” Atiku questioned.
