The Federal Government will begin a two-week replacement of damaged expansion joints on the Kara–Berger Bridge section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway from Tuesday, September 8, 2026.
The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) announced the planned intervention in a traffic advisory issued on Sunday by its spokesperson, Babatunde Akinbiyi.
The repair, being undertaken in conjunction with the Federal Ministry of Works and other relevant agencies, is scheduled to end on Tuesday, September 22.
According to Akinbiyi, the work was ordered by the Minister of Works to address the deteriorating condition of the bridge’s expansion joints and enhance safety for road users.
He said the intervention was also expected to protect the structural integrity of the bridge and improve traffic flow along the heavily travelled Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
“Following the directive of the Honourable Minister of Works, the replacement work is scheduled for two weeks, commencing from Tuesday, September 8, 2026, to Tuesday, September 22, 2026,” Akinbiyi stated.
TRACE warned that motorists should anticipate restrictions on some lanes and possible delays, especially during peak travel periods, as traffic controls would be introduced around the construction zone.
“To provide a safe working environment for the contractor and minimise disruption to traffic, appropriate traffic management measures will be implemented at the affected section,” he noted.
Akinbiyi said TRACE, the Federal Road Safety Corps, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority and the police would be deployed to the corridor to manage vehicular movement and maintain order during the project.
He urged motorists to make necessary adjustments to their travel plans, allow extra time for their journeys and comply with temporary traffic signs, road markings and instructions from traffic officials.
“Motorists are strongly advised to plan their journeys ahead of time and allow for additional travel time,” Akinbiyi said.
He also cautioned motorists against stopping unnecessarily or picking up passengers within the restricted section, driving against traffic or taking unauthorised alternative routes.

Akinbiyi appealed for patience and cooperation from road users, stressing that the temporary restrictions were required to enable the repairs to be completed safely and promptly.
“The motoring public is particularly urged to remain patient and disciplined, as the temporary restrictions are necessary to facilitate the safe and timely execution of the project,” he said.
He further assured motorists that TRACE would coordinate with the Federal Ministry of Works, the contractor and other agencies to limit disruptions and maintain safe movement along the corridor.
“TRACE assures the public that it will continue to work closely with the Federal Ministry of Works, the contractor and other relevant agencies to minimise traffic disruption and ensure free and safe movement of motorists throughout the duration of the work,” Akinbiyi said.
The agency advised motorists to drive cautiously and observe all traffic regulations, while expressing regret over the inconvenience the construction may cause.
The Federal Controller of Works in Ogun State, Richard Adeleye, also confirmed the planned repair in a telephone conversation with journalists on Sunday.
“Yes. The repair will take place,” Adeleye said.
The latest intervention comes amid ongoing construction activities at various points along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, which have continued to cause significant delays for commuters.
