Obi Blasts Kwara Massacre, Demands Swift Action Against Rising Violence

Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi on Thursday condemned the recent attacks in Kwara State, describing them as tragic and a major failure for the country.

Obi said he was “deeply saddened” by reports that gunmen killed about 150 people in Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area, offering condolences to the families of victims and the government and people of the state.

He warned that recurring violence across the country had worsened beyond levels seen in some war-torn nations and urged authorities to act swiftly to restore peace, bring perpetrators to justice, and reassure Nigerians that their lives would be protected.

The attacks involved gunmen invading the villages, killing scores of residents, and burning homes. Initial reports indicated dozens of deaths, but figures later rose to over 100, sparking outrage and criticism of the Federal Government’s handling of insecurity.

Security operatives have been deployed to prevent further attacks, and government officials pledged to bring those responsible to justice.
