The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), David Mark, has said the departure of key figures like Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso will not derail the party’s ambitions, insisting instead that it will drive renewed effort ahead of the 2027 elections.
Mark made the remarks on Wednesday, May 6, at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja during a meeting with members of the Forum of ADC former and serving federal lawmakers.
He acknowledged that the exits carry political weight, while expressing confidence that the party will regroup and present strong candidates capable of competing effectively in the next electoral cycle.
“No doubt, the exit of Obi and Kwankwaso has its impact, but it will spur us to work harder,” he said.

In a similar vein, the ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, played down the significance of the defections, arguing that the party’s core remains stable.
He maintained that those who left were influenced by personal political calculations tied to their chances in future elections.
“The people who left followed their idols whom they believe would help them win elections. We wish them good luck, but the core structures of our party remain intact,” he said.
The developments come as political parties continue to adjust their strategies and alliances ahead of the 2027 general elections.
