Obi Urges Unity In Uyo, Says New Nigeria Possible

Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has called for unity, accountability and people-centred leadership as he addressed members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Obidient Movement in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

Obi, who shared details of the meeting via his official X account on Sunday, said he attended the gathering on Saturday, February 14, where he emphasised the need for collective action in pursuit of national transformation.

Speaking to supporters and party members, the former Anambra State governor underscored the importance of working together “as one family” toward what he described as the common goal of building a new Nigeria.

“Nigeria must be led by leaders who are competent, compassionate, and committed,” Obi stated, adding that governance should prioritise development, security, education, healthcare, poverty reduction and youth empowerment.

He argued that the country’s political culture must shift “from mere consumption to production,” urging leaders to harness Nigeria’s vast resources to generate sustainable wealth and prosperity for citizens.

Beyond policy priorities, Obi stressed the need for moral renewal and accountability in public life. He said public office holders must embody the virtues implied in the titles they bear.

“Those who aspire to be called ‘honourable’ must truly act honourably; those who seek to be addressed as ‘His Excellency’ must embody excellence; and those who aim to be ‘distinguished’ must live distinguished lives,” he said.

The meeting in Uyo reflects ongoing efforts by Obi and his supporters to consolidate alliances and mobilise grassroots backing under the broader vision of reform and good governance.

Concluding his remarks with his now-familiar refrain, Obi declared: “A new Nigeria is POssible.”
