Oborevwori: I Earn ₦503,000, My Permanent Secretaries Get ₦900,000

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has disclosed that he earns ₦503,000 monthly, while Permanent Secretaries in the state civil service receive ₦900,000.

He made the disclosure on Thursday, August 20, during the inauguration of 12 four-bedroom terraced duplexes for Permanent Secretaries in Asaba and the presentation of official vehicles to 12 newly appointed officers.

Oborevwori said the salaries of Permanent Secretaries were increased after they complained that some directors were earning almost as much as they were. He put the monthly pay of the state Head of Service at ₦1 million.

The governor said 302 public officers had benefited from the Public Officers’ Vehicle Loan Scheme, while 119 had accessed housing loans. Civil servants interested in farming had also received farm inputs to boost income and food production.

He added that 450 senior management officers were supported to undertake a seven-weekend training programme in collaboration with the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria.

According to Oborevwori, the appointment of 12 Permanent Secretaries in May ensured that all 25 local government areas had representation at that level of the civil service. He said the appointments followed due process and were based on merit.

The governor also disclosed that civil servants would begin receiving a 13th-month salary from December 2026, with plans to seek legal backing for the policy to ensure its continuation beyond his tenure in 2031.

He said Delta was among the states that implemented the new national minimum wage.

Oborevwori urged civil servants and political appointees to reject absenteeism, nepotism, waste, inefficiency, bribery and corruption, and charged beneficiaries of the new quarters to safeguard and maintain the facilities.

He said the measures were aimed at improving workers’ welfare, strengthening the civil service and enhancing public service delivery.
