Ogogo Alive, Daughter Quashes Death Rumour

Veteran Yoruba actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, is alive, his daughter, Lima Taiwo, confirmed on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, dismissing a death report circulating online.

The rumour surfaced a day after the actor’s daughters publicly sought urgent medical assistance for their father, disclosing that he is battling stage-four cancer.

A Facebook user had claimed that Ogogo died after some hospitals allegedly declined to continue his treatment and that his daughter, Haleemah Taiwo, announced his death.

Lima dismissed the claim in an Instagram post, describing it as false and urging the public to stop spreading it.

On Monday, August 17, Lima and her sister, Kira Taiwo, had appealed to hospitals, cancer specialists and other medical professionals to help secure further treatment for their father.

Lima said the family became aware of the seriousness of his condition about three weeks earlier and stressed that they were seeking medical intervention rather than financial assistance.

Kira disclosed that Ogogo’s cancer was at stage four and said the hospital treating him had told the family it could no longer continue chemotherapy.

The appeals have drawn concern and support from colleagues and others in the entertainment industry.

Ogogo has previously spoken about serious health challenges. In July 2025, he revealed that he had battled an ulcer-related illness for about seven years, during which he suffered severe symptoms, including vomiting blood.

The current health crisis, however, has been identified by his daughters as cancer.

As of Tuesday, August 18, there was no credible confirmation of Ogogo’s death. His daughter’s denial remains the family’s direct response to the claim.

Ogogo, whose career spans more than four decades, is a prominent figure in Yoruba-language cinema.
