A 2027 governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress in Ogun State, Modele Sarafa-Yusuf, has expressed confidence in her chances ahead of the next election cycle, insisting that her campaign will be driven by ideas rather than financial influence.
Speaking during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday, Sarafa-Yusuf said she is undeterred by political competition, stressing that she would engage voters directly with her message and vision for the state.
“I’m not afraid of anyone. I will convince the electorate with my message,” she said, projecting calm confidence as political activities gradually begin to build toward the 2027 elections.
Reflecting on her previous attempt to secure the party’s ticket in 2022, she lamented the absence of a transparent primary process, noting that the incumbent candidate emerged without a competitive contest.
However, she expressed optimism that reforms introduced in the 2026 Electoral Act would provide a more level playing field for aspirants, particularly through the adoption of direct primaries or consensus mechanisms.

Sarafa-Yusuf also dismissed the notion that electoral success is solely determined by financial strength, arguing that credibility, connection with voters, and clear policy direction remain decisive factors.
“The 2027 elections present a different environment from 2023,” she added, signalling her belief that changing political dynamics could reshape outcomes.
Her comments reflect a broader conversation within Nigeria’s political landscape, where debates around internal party democracy, electoral reforms, and the influence of money in politics continue to shape public discourse.
As preparations for the 2027 general elections gather pace, aspirants like Sarafa-Yusuf are positioning themselves early, seeking to build grassroots support and redefine campaign narratives beyond traditional power structures.
