The Ogun State Government has confirmed that the two individuals who died in a road accident involving world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua were foreign nationals.
The announcement was made by Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the Ogun State Governor, who extended condolences to the families, friends, and associates of the victims.
The crash occurred along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway near the Makun axis.
Preliminary reports indicate the two adult male foreign nationals died instantly at the scene. Their bodies have been taken to the Livewell Morgue in Sagamu.
Joshua was travelling from Lagos to Sagamu with three other passengers when the accident occurred.
He and the driver were rescued by security personnel attached to his convoy and taken to a hospital, where they are receiving medical care.
Other passengers sustained varying degrees of injuries and are also being treated.
According to the government, the sport utility vehicle carrying the occupants collided with a stationary truck parked along the expressway.
The damaged SUV has been moved to the Sagamu Motor Traffic Division office, while the truck is being prepared for towing to aid a full investigation.
While authorities have not publicly released the identities of the deceased, social media posts suggest that one of the victims may have been Joshua’s friend, Latz, known online as @healthy_mindset, with a video shared on Joshua’s Instagram story showing them playing table tennis earlier on the day of the crash.
