Ogun Police Probe Viral Video of Alleged Assault on Portable in Custody

The Ogun State Police Command has opened a probe into a widely shared video allegedly showing popular singer Habeeb Okikiola, known as Portable, being physically assaulted while in police custody.

The footage, which has gone viral on social media especially on X captures the Zazu artiste handcuffed, shirtless, and visibly distressed as he pleads tearfully while seated on a couch in what appears to be a police detention area.

The video has triggered public backlash and renewed debate over police conduct and human rights compliance.

Sources claim the incident occurred at a detention facility in Ogun State, where some police officers were allegedly seen assaulting the musician.

Responding to the development, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed to Vanguard that Portable is still in custody but strongly condemned the alleged treatment captured in the video.
“Let me give you a heads up before my official statement comes out,.

“Yes, he was arrested, and he is with us, but that is a different issue. What is important is the assault that was happening at the station. We don’t condone it,” DSP Babaseyi said.

He further emphasised that recording or publicly displaying suspects is against police regulations, noting that such actions compromise both the safety of detainees and ongoing investigations.

“We don’t condone videoing suspects. We don’t even put suspects’ faces out. No matter who the suspect is, nobody should be treated in such a manner,” he stated.

DSP Babaseyi disclosed that an internal inquiry has already been initiated and assured that officers found guilty would be dealt with according to the law.

“The investigation is ongoing, and the officers involved, if found culpable, will be sent to the appropriate authorities. That process has already started,” he added.

Portable’s arrest is reportedly linked to allegations of assault made by actress and skit creator Omobolarinde Akinyanju, fondly called Ashabi Simple, who is one of the singer’s baby mamas and the mother of two of his children.

The alleged incident was said to have taken place on the 1st of January, 2026, at Portable’s bar in Ogun State, where Ashabi had gone following an invitation from the musician.

Reports indicate that an argument broke out over Ashabi’s position in Portable’s life. While she reportedly demanded recognition as a wife, Portable allegedly insisted that only his legally married wife, Bewaji, holds that status.

The disagreement allegedly escalated into violence, with Ashabi accusing the singer of slapping and beating her, confiscating phones, and threatening her and her siblings with an axe.

In response, Portable addressed the allegations in a lengthy video shared on Instagram, where he expressed anger over the legal action instituted by Ashabi and accused her of infidelity.
