The Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has proclaimed Tuesday, the 3rd of February, 2026, as a public holiday to mark the 50th anniversary of the state’s creation.
The announcement was conveyed on Monday, the 2nd of February, 2026, through a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Tokunbo Talabi.
Ogun State, widely known as the Gateway State, was established on the 3rd of February, 1976. The Golden Jubilee celebrations are set to include a series of commemorative events designed to reflect on the state’s history, celebrate its present achievements, and envision a prosperous future.

Talabi noted that the declared public holiday is meant to enable residents to actively participate in the planned Golden Jubilee activities, which honour five decades of Ogun State’s political establishment, sustained growth, and significant contributions to national development.
The statement added that the governor urged citizens to observe the historic occasion in a spirit of unity and peace.
