Ogun State to Establish Ranching Facilities for Hygienic Meat Processing

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has announced plans to establish ranching facilities aimed at modernizing meat production, ensuring hygienic slaughtering, and enhancing agricultural development in the state.

Abiodun shared this on Monday, February 10, via his official X handle, following discussions with representatives from SEMMARIS and the Regional Agriculture Counsellor of the French Embassy in Nigeria.

According to the governor, the new ranching facilities will address concerns about unregulated meat processing, particularly at Kara Market, where approximately 10,000 cattle are slaughtered daily under substandard conditions.

“We are set to establish ranching facilities in Ogun State to ensure the hygienic rearing, slaughtering, and processing of meat. This initiative was discussed during a visit by SEMMARIS and the @FranceInNigeria Embassy’s Regional Agriculture Counsellor to my office in Abeokuta,” Abiodun stated.

Beyond cattle, the initiative will also expand into piggery and improve poultry farming, leveraging Ogun State’s strategic location, vast arable land, and strong infrastructure.

The governor assured SEMMARIS of the state government’s full support, emphasizing that their presence would boost food security, create employment, and provide significant opportunities for local farmers.

“This partnership aligns with our vision to transform Ogun’s agricultural sector and strengthen Nigeria-France economic ties,” Abiodun added.

With this move, Ogun State is positioning itself as a key player in Nigeria’s push for sustainable and hygienic agricultural practices, setting the stage for increased investments in the livestock sector.
