Okonjo-Iweala Raises Alarm Over Fake AI Investment Scam Video

The Director-General of the World Trade Organisation, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has alerted Nigerians to a fraudulent AI-manipulated video circulating online, falsely claiming to offer high financial returns through a government-backed investment scheme.

In a statement posted on her verified X account on Wednesday, Okonjo-Iweala disowned the video, describing it as fake and unauthorised.

“Just alerting Nigerians. Another fake AI-manipulated video. The authorities are handling. Just wanted to alert you to be aware of this,” she wrote.

The video, which has been widely shared on social media, uses her image and voice to promote what it describes as an official wealth creation programme.

It claims that participants can earn up to N2,660,000 within the first week with a minimum investment of N380,000, without requiring daily effort or financial expertise.

It further states that the scheme is open to Nigerians aged 30 and above, offers automated returns, and allows withdrawals at any time.

The promoters also claim that only 4,000 accounts are available, with more than 80 per cent already reserved.

Okonjo-Iweala urged members of the public to remain vigilant and rely only on her verified communication channels for authentic information. She reiterated that X, formerly known as Twitter, is her only official social media platform.

“As I repeatedly said, I never post anything on Instagram, Facebook or WhatsApp. Anything emanating from these sources with my image is not from me. I only post on Twitter/X. I just don’t want people to be duped,” she stated.

Authorities are reportedly investigating the source of the video in a bid to curb its spread and prevent unsuspecting Nigerians from falling victim to the scam.
