Olawepo-Hashim faults ADC, Says Party Can’t Fix Nigeria

Former Peoples Democratic Party presidential aspirant, Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, has rejected the African Democratic Congress as a viable political platform ahead of the 2027 general elections, arguing that many of its prominent figures are associated with Nigeria’s lingering challenges.

Olawepo-Hashim made the remarks on Wednesday, the 4th of February, 2026, while featuring on Politics Today, a programme aired on Channels Television.

He maintained that, aside from a handful of individuals, the majority of ADC leaders have deep ties to past governments.

According to him, those figures played roles in administrations he believes contributed to the country’s worsening insecurity, economic decline, and the politicisation of religion in Northern Nigeria.

He further stated that several leaders within the ADC, as well as the Democratic Peoples Party, were active participants in what he described as failed governance eras, particularly under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

In his words, “Most of the players in the ADC were part of the recent problem. Apart from Peter Obi and Atiku, the ADC elements are all Buhari’s.”

He added, “They are part of the problem, the problem of weaponizing religion in Northern Nigeria, insecurity, and a bankrupt economy. They were part of the problem.”

Olawepo-Hashim cautioned Nigerians against seeking political change through parties he believes are dominated by individuals linked to past failures, warning that such moves would only recycle old problems.

“You cannot go from the frying pan into the fire. So, don’t go from PDP to ADC,” he stressed.
