The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has provided free medical treatment to over 1,500 elderly members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, in a health initiative aimed at promoting the well-being of senior party members.
The programme, tagged “BTO Medicare Support for Elders,” was facilitated by the President Bola Tinubu support group, P-BAT Mandate Elders Forum, and has, since December 2025, benefited over 2,000 elderly persons across the state’s 18 local government areas. Most beneficiaries are aged 70 and above.
The latest session was held on Thursday at the residence of the group’s chairman, Chief Erastus Akeju, in Akure, the state capital. Participants underwent free medical tests including blood sugar, blood pressure, and prostate checks. They also received supplements, counselling, and follow-up treatment from medical professionals.
Chief Demola Ijabiyi, coordinator of the group, said the programme was designed to address common ailments among elderly people. “Today, we are concentrating on conditions such as prostate enlargement, which can cause discomfort and other health complications. Over 1,500 elders are benefitting from this session,” he said.

One beneficiary, former Commissioner for Information in Ondo State, Mrs. Tola Awo, commended the initiative, noting that it helped detect undiagnosed conditions and provided immediate treatment. “A woman discovered she was hypertensive here and received treatment on the spot. We are grateful to God and to Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo for this intervention,” she said.
The programme reflects ongoing efforts by the APC support group to ensure the health and welfare of senior party members in the state.
