Bauchi Govt Doubles Salaries for Doctors, Health Workers

The Bauchi State Government has approved a 100% salary increase for doctors and other health workers to improve service delivery and retain skilled medical personnel across the state.

The decision was made at an extraordinary meeting of the Bauchi State Executive Council at the Government House in Bauchi, presided over by Governor Bala Mohammed.

The council also approved special rural allowances to encourage medical personnel to serve in underserved communities.

Muhammad Sani Dambam, Commissioner for Health and Social Development, said the salary review effectively doubles the pay of doctors and other health personnel and described the move as one of the most significant welfare interventions for health workers in the state.

Dambam added that the package includes special allowances for rural postings and access to car and housing loans to improve living standards.

He also announced the introduction of biometric attendance and verification systems in health facilities to promote accountability and efficiency.

The state government said the salary increase and welfare incentives are designed to curb the brain drain of health professionals from Bauchi to other parts of Nigeria and abroad, while enhancing the quality of healthcare delivery across the state.
