A fatal road accident occurred Thursday morning at Eleko Junction along the Lekki–Ajah Expressway in Lagos, leaving a male motorist dead and his wife battling for her life after a truck loaded with granite toppled onto their Toyota saloon car.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the incident in a statement issued by its Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq.
According to preliminary findings, the articulated truck was travelling from the Epe axis at high speed when it suffered a sudden brake failure near Eleko Junction.
The driver reportedly lost control, veered off course and rammed into the Toyota vehicle heading from Ajah towards Epe.
The violent collision caused the truck to overturn, crushing the smaller car and trapping the driver inside the mangled wreckage.
LASTMA officials, in collaboration with operatives of the Federal Road Safety Corps and assisted by nearby residents, carried out an emergency rescue operation.
While both occupants were pulled from the vehicle, the male driver was confirmed dead at the scene. His wife sustained critical injuries and was rushed to a nearby medical facility for urgent treatment.

He stressed the need for regular mechanical checks, urging drivers to prioritise safety to avert needless loss of lives.
