One Killed, Seven Injured in Jigawa Building Collapse After Heavy Rain

A midnight building collapse in Kirikasamma Local Government Area of Jigawa State has left one person dead and seven others injured, local authorities confirmed on Sunday.

According to the council’s Information Officer, Musa Muhammad, the incident occurred in Kabak village following a heavy downpour that battered the community and surrounding areas on Friday night.

“Seven persons sustained serious injuries while one person lost his life in the tragedy,” Muhammad said in a statement issued in Dutse. He added that five of the injured victims are currently receiving treatment in hospital, while two others have been treated and discharged.

The Chairman of Kirikasamma Local Government Council, Muhammad Maji, visited the scene to commiserate with the victims and their families.

He announced a donation of ₦500,000 to cover medical expenses for those injured and ₦100,000 in emergency support to the bereaved family.

Local authorities have urged residents to remain cautious during the rainy season, as several communities in Jigawa remain vulnerable to flooding and storm-related disasters.
