One Police Officer Dead, Another Injured as Truck Loses Control in Abuja

A police officer has been confirmed dead and another injured after a speeding mixer truck veered off course along the Sani Abacha Expressway in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory Police Command announced on Thursday.

The tragic crash occurred around 2:20 p.m. on Wednesday near the National Ecumenical Centre, according to a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh.

Preliminary findings revealed that the truck, driven by one Salman Usman of a Wuse Zone 5 construction firm, suddenly lost control and rammed into the officers who were on official duty at the time.

“In the incident, two police officers on official duty were affected, resulting in the unfortunate loss of one of the officers, while the other sustained injuries and is currently receiving medical attention,” the statement said.

The Command described the accident as a stark reminder of the daily dangers officers face while managing traffic and safeguarding lives across the FCT.

Authorities confirmed that the driver has been arrested, while vehicles involved in the crash have been impounded for further investigation and technical inspection.

FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Miller Dantawaye, extended condolences to the family and colleagues of the deceased and prayed for the quick recovery of the injured officer.

He also assured the public of a “thorough investigation” and pledged that justice would be served.
