The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has welcomed three more lawmakers from the opposition into its fold, pushing the number of defections in the current House of Representatives to 30.
At plenary on Thursday, May 15, Speaker Abbas Tajudeen confirmed that Oluwole Oke from Osun State had left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), while Kabiru Hassan Rumrum and Sani Abdullahi from Kano State had both defected from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the APC.
Rumrum had earlier announced his resignation from the NNPP and rejoining of the APC during a meeting with the party’s National Chairman, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. Oke also previously revealed his decision to quit the PDP and align with the APC in Osun.

Their official switch marks a growing trend in the 10th National Assembly, where lawmakers continue to abandon their original parties.
Out of the 30 who have defected so far, 27 have moved to the APC from the PDP, Labour Party, African Democratic Congress (ADC), and the NNPP.
The ongoing realignments are reshaping the political landscape in the lower chamber, further consolidating the APC’s hold on the legislature.
