A political group, Osun Ajose, on Saturday presented the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship nomination form to the immediate past Deputy Governor of Osun State, Benedict Alabi, declaring him the most qualified aspirant to fly the party’s flag in the 2026 governorship election.
Alabi, who served under former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola from 2018 to 2022, is one of 14 aspirants who formally notified the Osun APC of their intention to contest the party’s primary scheduled for December 13, 2025. Other aspirants who have already purchased forms include Senator Iyiola Omisore, former NIWA Managing Director Bola Oyebamiji, and former lawmaker Dr. Mulikat Abiola.
At the presentation ceremony held in Osogbo and attended by party chieftains, supporters and members of the group, Osun Ajose leader Moruf Adekunle said Alabi stood out among the aspirants.
“Benedict Alabi remains the most qualified to get the party’s ticket for the August 8, 2026 poll,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Opeyemi Badmus described Alabi as a unifier and youth-friendly leader.
“He is a bridge builder who prioritises the future of the youth. We believe the best support we can give his ambition is to purchase the form for him,” he said, expressing confidence that Osun would “progress” under his leadership.
In his response, Alabi said his decision to enter the race was driven by a long-standing commitment to the development of Osun State and the welfare of its residents.

“My ambition is not born of a fleeting desire but from a deep-seated commitment to the progress of our state. Leadership, at its best, is an act of service,” he said.
The former deputy governor, who declared himself “the most competent” among the aspirants, said his experience in government had prepared him for the top job.
“I don’t see anybody who has my antecedents in governance. Even if the candidate is chosen by consensus, I believe I will emerge. The party needs a unifier, and in all modesty, I am the lead in the pack,” he added.
Alabi also expressed confidence about his chances in the APC primary and commended Osun Ajose for investing their trust in him.
