The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Osun State has announced that its governorship primary election will take place on December 13, 2025, as preparations intensify for the 2026 polls.
This was revealed in a statement issued by the state chairman of the party, Mr Tosin Odeyemi, on Friday, November 7.
Odeyemi said the party had finalised arrangements to ensure a smooth and transparent exercise, adding that the NNPP was determined to make a strong showing in next year’s election.
“We have not less than four aspirants, and many people are still informing us of their interest in joining us,” he stated. “The 2026 gubernatorial election will definitely be a different ball game in Osun, as we are set to spring surprises.”
The NNPP chairman described the party as “a new bride in Osun,” saying it was attracting fresh support due to the internal wranglings in the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the divisions rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“I am so happy that this gubernatorial election is different in Osun. People are now seeing our party as a third force through which they can strive,” Odeyemi said.

“We are working underneath, and feelers have made us realise that Osun masses are ready to support whoever emerges as our candidate after the December 13, 2025, primary election,” he added.
He encouraged party members to continue spreading the NNPP’s message of hope and development, particularly its plans aimed at easing the current economic hardship across the country.
As political activities heighten ahead of the August 8, 2026, governorship election, other major parties have also set their schedules for primaries.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) is expected to hold its primary on the same day, December 13, while the incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke, has been cleared by the PDP to contest for another term.
No fewer than 13 aspirants have so far indicated interest in running on the APC platform.
They include the Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority, Mr Bola Oyebamiji; former Deputy Governor, Senator Iyiola Omisore; former Senate Committee Chairman on Rules and Business, Senator Babajide Omoworare; and Mr Dotun Babayemi.
Others are the immediate past Deputy Governor, Benedict Alabi; Chairman of Mutual Assurance Benefits, Akin Ogunbiyi; and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Kunle Adegoke.
