Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has declared Friday, August 14, 2026, a work-free day for public servants across the state ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
The declaration was contained in a circular issued by the Head of Service, Elder Ayanleye Aina, and shared on X on Wednesday, August 12, by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed.
The state government said the decision was intended to give workers who need to travel enough time to return to their polling areas and prepare to exercise their constitutional right to vote.
According to the circular, the directive applies to all categories of public service workers, except personnel involved in emergency and other essential duties.
Adeleke, meanwhile, urged workers, their relatives and friends to turn out in large numbers for the election and protect their votes.

In a message to workers ahead of the poll, the governor commended organised labour and other workers in the state for supporting his administration, describing the relationship between his government and the workforce as mutually beneficial.
“The time for action has come. As formal workers at state establishments, I task you to mobilise informal workers, artisans and professional bodies,” Adeleke said.
He urged workers and other residents to stand firm in protecting their constitutional rights, saying the election offered an opportunity to preserve the achievements of his administration.
“We must remain strong in defence of our constitutional rights to vote and be voted for,” he said.
The governor also appealed to voters to protect what he described as the gains recorded by his administration during its three-and-a-half years in office.
“We must defend the gains of the last three and half years plus. Ours is a workers-friendly government which has delivered across board to labour and Osun people. We cannot and must not allow a return to dark days,” Adeleke said.
The August 15 governorship election will determine who governs Osun State for the next four years.
