The Osun State Government has unveiled a humanitarian initiative aimed at providing free artificial limbs to 1,000 amputees across the state as part of efforts to improve support for persons living with disabilities.
The programme was announced in a statement published on the government’s official X (formerly Twitter) account on Sunday.
According to the statement, the initiative is being implemented under the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke to help restore mobility, independence, and dignity to beneficiaries.
Speaking on the programme, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Needs, Kamil Aransi, described the intervention as a landmark development, noting that Adeleke is the first governor in the state’s history to provide artificial limbs free of charge for amputees.
Aransi stated that the initiative aligns with the Osun State Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Law, 2024, signed into law on June 10, 2024, which guarantees various rights and welfare provisions for persons with disabilities, including access to free health insurance.

He explained that the first phase of the programme, tagged the Measurement and Assessment Camp, is scheduled to hold from May 7 to May 9, 2026, at the SOB Conference and Events Centre, beginning daily at 7:30 a.m.
According to him, participants will undergo detailed medical assessments to determine the most suitable prosthetic limbs for their individual needs.
Aransi urged intending beneficiaries to register and schedule appointments through the designated phone lines, noting that only registered participants would be attended to, as walk-in access would not be permitted.
He further disclosed that certified professionals would carry out the prosthetic fittings in the following month, alongside follow-up support to ensure the artificial limbs function effectively for recipients.
The state government noted that the programme forms part of broader reforms targeted at expanding healthcare access, promoting inclusion, and improving the welfare of vulnerable residents across Osun State.
