Otedola Celebrates Chagoury’s GCON Honour, Hails Legacy Of Vision

Nigerian businessman and philanthropist, Femi Otedola, has congratulated billionaire real estate mogul and diplomat, Ambassador Gilbert Chagoury, following his conferment with the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON) by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Otedola described Chagoury as a role model, close friend, and mentor, praising his life’s work as a testament to vision, discipline, and enduring excellence that has significantly shaped Nigeria’s modern economic and urban development.

President Tinubu conferred the prestigious national honour on Chagoury on January 8, 2026, in Abuja, coinciding with the businessman’s 80th birthday. The conferment was officially confirmed on Monday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga.

According to the instrument of conferment signed by the President, the GCON honour was awarded in recognition of Chagoury’s outstanding virtues and in appreciation of his exceptional service to Nigeria.

Reacting in a post on his verified X handle, Otedola described the honour as well deserved, noting that Chagoury’s influence is visible in landmark projects that have transformed Nigeria’s skyline and created long-term economic value.
