FCT Council Polls: INEC Begins Ward-Level PVC Collection

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has announced that it will take the collection of Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs, to the ward level across the Federal Capital Territory as part of preparations for the February 21 Area Council elections.

The commission disclosed this in a notice posted on its official X handle on Tuesday, January 20, urging eligible voters in the FCT to take advantage of the opportunity to collect their PVCs ahead of the polls.

According to INEC, PVC collection at the Registration Area, ward level, will run from Wednesday, January 22, to Sunday, January 26, 2026. The exercise will hold daily between 9:00am and 3:00pm.

In its message to residents, the electoral body said, “Dear FCT Residents, as we prepare for the February 21st Area Council Election, INEC is bringing your PVC closer to you. Don’t miss the chance to collect your PVC in the FCT.”

The commission explained that the decentralised collection is aimed at easing access for voters and boosting participation in the forthcoming Area Council elections.

INEC also clarified that the PVC collection exercise will not end at the ward level.

The commission stated that eligible voters who are unable to collect their cards within the January 22 to 26 window will still have the opportunity to do so at INEC Area Council offices across the FCT after January 26.

The electoral body explained that eligible voters are expected to visit their respective wards during the period to collect their cards.

To assist voters in locating their designated ward collection centres, INEC directed the public to its official portal.

“For the list of Ward Collection Centres, visit: https://cvr.inecnigeria.org/Locator,” the statement added.

The February 21 Area Council election is expected to determine leadership at the grassroots level across the six area councils of the FCT.

INEC has repeatedly stressed that possession of a PVC remains a mandatory requirement for participation in the election.
