Abia State Governor Alex Otti has approved an initial financial intervention for veteran Nollywood actress Ngozi Nwosu following her public appeal for assistance to fund urgent medical treatment.
The governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Tourism and Entertainment, Dr Justice Okey Martins (JMartins), announced the development on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, in a statement posted on his verified X account.
Martins said Otti approved the first tranche of funding towards the actress’ medical bills after her health challenge attracted widespread public attention.
While thanking the governor for the gesture, he appealed to Nigerians, corporate organizations and other well-wishers to continue supporting Nwosu, noting that more funds are required for her treatment.
He also expressed the gratitude of stakeholders in the creative industry for the governor’s intervention.

The support follows Nwosu’s emotional disclosure that she had been hospitalized for about three weeks and needed three life-saving surgeries estimated at ₦30 million.
Her appeal triggered an outpouring of support from colleagues, fans and other Nigerians, with renewed calls for assistance.
Her management later confirmed that the actress had shown signs of recovery and was preparing for the first of the surgeries, while thanking donors for their contributions and prayers.
The development echoes Nwosu’s 2012 health crisis, when she received financial assistance from the Lagos State Government, Nollywood colleagues and members of the public for specialist treatment in the United Kingdom.
Governor Otti’s intervention has renewed calls for stronger welfare and healthcare support for veteran entertainers facing medical and financial challenges.
