Fresh concerns over player welfare in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) have emerged following revelations by Enyimba midfielder Eze Ekwutoziam regarding his recovery from a serious knee injury.
Speaking during an appearance on SuperSports NaijaMade, Ekwutoziam disclosed that he was left to shoulder the financial burden of his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) surgery after sustaining the injury in training with Enyimba FC.
According to the midfielder, the club’s chairman, Nwankwo Kanu, offered to provide a loan to cover the medical expenses.
However, the proposed arrangement reportedly included deductions from his monthly salary—terms the player said he declined.
