The Oyo State Fire Services Agency on Thursday said it rescued a man alive during a fire incident involving a truck at Kara area on the Kishi/Kaima Road in Irepo Local Government Area on Wednesday.
The Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Fire Reform and Chairman of the agency, Moroof Akinwande, disclosed this in a statement issued in Ibadan, noting that the fire was reported to the agency around 9:00 pm.
According to Akinwande, the fire involved a Volvo truck loaded with rubber materials. “Upon arrival, firefighters led by Chief Fire Superintendent Olayiwola Kazeem promptly launched an articulated attack, rescuing a male person and preventing the fire from spreading to nearby properties,” he said. The rescued man was taken to a hospital in Kishi for treatment.

The fire, which reportedly resulted from sparks from the truck’s engine compartment while in motion, was completely extinguished. Akinwande urged truck owners to prioritise fire safety, including the provision of fire extinguishers, and advised the public to report fire incidents with accurate addresses. The incident follows recent devastating fires in the state, including a fire last Friday that destroyed three vehicles and a community powerhouse at a filling station in Kara, Kishi, and another on Tuesday that burnt down the RSK Adebowale Multipurpose Filling Station, a petrol tanker, and a motorcycle in Ofiki, Saki.
