The Comptroller of the Oyo/Osun Customs Area Command, Joseph Adelaja, has emphasized the need for collaboration and intelligence sharing in tackling smuggling activities at border stations.
Adelaja made this call on Tuesday when he received a delegation from the Nigeria Customs Liaison Office in Cotonou, led by Chief Superintendent of Customs, O.M. Olanrewaju, at the command’s operational headquarters in Ibadan, Oyo State.
According to a statement by the Oyo/Osun Command’s Public Relations Officer, Abdulmalik Akintola, Adelaja stressed that the visit aligns with the policy of the Comptroller-General of Customs, B.A. Adeniyi, which focuses on collaboration, consolidation, and innovation.
He assured the visiting delegation of the command’s commitment to supporting their duties while urging them to strengthen intelligence-sharing efforts to curb smuggling.

Olanrewaju, in response, expressed gratitude for the warm reception and highlighted the role of the Nigeria Customs Liaison Office in fostering cooperation with the Republic of Benin’s Customs Service.
He noted that the office facilitates trade, organizes bilateral meetings, and enhances intelligence gathering across key border points, including Idiroko, Kwara, and Oyo State borders.
Both officials reaffirmed the importance of inter-agency collaboration in strengthening anti-smuggling operations and ensuring smooth trade facilitation.
