Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has insisted that no coalition, including the recently announced African Democratic Congress (ADC) alliance, can destabilise the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which he described as a political institution with enduring strength.
Makinde made the remark on Wednesday, July 16, while speaking with journalists at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, during a colloquium to mark the 10th coronation anniversary of the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi.
Dismissing the idea that the ADC coalition poses any threat, the governor said political exits and alliances are common, but the PDP’s structure and legacy remain solid.
“Politics is a game of interest. I don’t think that will make any dent on the PDP as a party,” Makinde said.
He added, “The PDP is an institution. We have freedom of entrance and exit. Anyone that will hold the PDP down, it is better for such an individual to quit.”

Makinde noted that while Nigerians are free to explore new political associations, the PDP’s focus remains on strengthening governance and national unity.
“I don’t see the ADC as a threat to the PDP. The goal is about the same. If you are not happy about the tempo and pace of governance, you are free to associate and see what can be done.
“But one thing we must all realise is that players will come and go, governors will come and go, the president will come and go but our states and country will remain,” he said.
Makinde’s comments come amid rising interest in the ADC’s coalition efforts ahead of the 2027 general election, following the defection of high-profile politicians.
His statement reinforces the PDP’s position that internal restructuring and loyalty are more important than political realignment or defections.
